"We loved our four-year relationship with Henning Ball Park , and we are forever grateful to Caledonia Minor Hardball for their generosity and support " says Easter Egg Hunt Committee Chair, Lisa Buchanan. Continued growth and improvement is important to the sustainability of any large-scale event, McKinnon Park and the adjacent, Caledonia Lions Community Centre and McKinnon Park Secondary School provide us with the facilities and space necessary to execute on our vision including a more central and convenient location, the ability to host some of our activities indoors , full washroom facilities, lots of paved parking and a new partnership with another great community event in the annual Caledonia Lions Club Fish Fry.
We are thrilled that the Caledonia BIA, Caledonia Athletic Softball/Hardball Association and Caledonia Lions Club are welcoming us and have kindly offered to present and host this years, 8th Annual Caledonia Community Easter Egg Hunt."
Started in 2013, the event with the support of our community and local businesses has become a popular annual family event, growing from 350 children in our initial year to more than 1000 children and their families registering last year from all over Haldimand, Brant and Norfolk Counties, the City of Hamilton and beyond.
We will also be collecting non-perishable food items again on behalf of The Caledonia and District and Six Nations Community Food Banks. Thanks to the generosity of the families that have attended over the years we have collected thousands of pounds of non-perishable food donations along with cash donations on behalf of the two Food Banks.
This year with a little bit of help from Mother Nature and our new location, we are expecting that even more children and their families will attend this great community event. The Easter Bunny will be there along with live bunnies and alpacas to pet, face painting, raffles, community group activities with great food from the Caledonia Lions Fish Fry and Puddy's Pulled Pork & BBQ. We are also expecting that local police, firefighters and EMS who are great supporters will also be actively involved again. Not to mention 30,000 chocolate eggs to hunt!!!.
To help ensure that the Egg Hunt is fair for all children and that the needs of each age group are met the four age group, Egg Hunts will be conducted at specific times and durations. Time will also be allocated between each Egg Hunt to allow for the Egg Hunt area to be cleared and new eggs to be distributed in readiness for the next age group. The first section of the hunt, which is open to 0 to three-year-old children will start at 1:00 p.m., followed by four- to six-year-olds at 1:45 a.m., then seven- to nine-year-olds at 2:30 p.m. and finishing with the ten to 13-year-old children at 3:00 p.m.
